A data logger is a device that monitors and records changes in conditions at user-specified intervals over a predetermined time period, allowing those conditions to be measured, documented, and analyzed. Data loggers use either a built-in or remote sensor to collect data, a microprocessor to capture and record the data, and built-in memory to store that data.
Depending on the type of sensor and what kind of signal conditioning is used, a data logger can monitor temperature, humidity, pH, pressure, vibration, shock, COâ‚‚, voltage, and a whole lot more. A data logger can operate independently of a computer, and many are self-powered so that they can be used remotely — continuously logging data even when monitoring goods in transit.
